The Form Two class of Roman Ridge School in Accra has expressed appreciation to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi with a specially designed A3-sized card following an educational tour of the university’s campus.
The card, richly decorated with Ghanaian cultural symbols and colourful designs, reflects both creativity and deep cultural awareness. Its central yellow floral-patterned panel is framed by a striking red background, and at the top are two prominent Adinkra symbols: Dwennimmen (the horns of a ram) and Akoko Nan (the foot of a hen).
Dwennimmen symbolizes strength of mind, body and soul, coupled with humility, wisdom, and a spirit of learning. Akoko Nan, drawn from the proverb “Akoko nan tia ba na enkum ba” (the foot of a hen steps on the chick but does not kill it), represents nurturing with discipline.
Inside the card, 24 handwritten sticky notes carried the heartfelt reflections of the students on their KNUST experience.
Ohemaa wrote: “Thank you for taking us to KNUST. It was lovely to see their swimming pool and their primary school.”
Another student, Nyame-Ye, who is considering furthering studies abroad, said: “KNUST is amazing and interesting. Their Sports Complex is huge and I would probably consider going there before going abroad.”
Depanshi shared: “I loved the tour we had in KNUST. The place looked so majestic and pretty. I had fun when we did the role play and looked at many places around, like the swimming pool.”
Awuradwoa added: “Thank you for the amazing tour at K.N.U.S.T. The parliament house was extremely fun.”
